01 - Pour 4 cups water into a medium saucepan. Add cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and star anise pods, then simmer gently over medium heat for 3 minutes.
02 - Add black tea bags or herbal tea bags to the simmering liquid and steep for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove and discard tea bags when desired strength is achieved.
03 - Stir in honey or maple syrup and fresh lemon juice until fully dissolved and combined.
04 - Strain the beverage through a fine mesh strainer into a teapot or heatproof pitcher, discarding the whole spices.
05 - Pour hot into mugs. Garnish each mug with a lemon slice and a cinnamon stick as desired.
